The Subliminal History of New York State:

Rosendale Edition

Introduction:
Remember the ground speaks and has its way. It is beyond and below us, yet we take claim for what we do atop of it. Does it not have a mind of its own, its own agency?

This story is about the land of New York as we try to figure out what it is saying and doing, or wants to do: in this time, where presence past and future are compressed into an alternative time of now.

These things are happening: islands do move, little animals do create our homes, lighthouses fall in love and transmit information.
This is a true story

(harken back to Under Island, as the island leaves) Manhattan, scared of a seeing island, filled with quarantined derelicts, try as they wont for the rebel to remain at bay, in the bay.

The island sheds its home and makes way across manhattan and up up the Hudson,
A water route not unlike that of this empire state’s progression,
an opening to the west.

Here is where it meets Rosendale, a land atop the old inland sea with a cavernous howl calls to it through the waters of the rondout and the eye of the lighthouses.

Before it gets here it first sees the esopus lighthouse, love is drawn with this maid of meadows,

1.

Sung when Roosevelt Island's eye sees Esopus

LIGHTHOUSE LOVE SONG

once was meadow once was sea, move-

ing up river makes no track
Eye sea your I, you Sea my sea.
What once was meadows what once was sea

2.

Transmission Eyes (Jesse)

(carrie) Islands need lighthouses so that they can move.

(Jesse) And so: The island wades upstream toward the mouth of the Rondout Creek. At its head, a lighthouse searches the shores of the Hudson.

The beams of the Rondout and Roosevelt Island lighthouses lock. They reach in to each other. Data flies between the lighthouses, between the Island and the limestone plate. The Rondout lighthouse sends a map to the Island. It shows the locations of lime deposits in New York State. They stretch the length of the Hudson River and Rondout Creek, and turn west at Troy, heading toward Buffalo along the path of the Erie Canal.

After this transfer the beams break (!pause Shine light to jesse!) and the island moves on. It travels confidently – equipped with this limey map of New York's route of progress.

3.

ANTHRACITE

Overturn from underneath
Fossil fuel ignite
Had to figure extracate
Deep dark anthracite

What has buried (burrowed) in the stone
Breaking can set free
man made river build a nest
cobblestone the dream

Is the power in our mines
Be they coal or lime
Human feel like godliness
desiring (touching) the divine

4.

IRON MOUNTAIN

And its when the rich they drink
Their bottles down below,

Hidden in the burly cheek
And stuffed inside a whale.

Hidden treasure yours to see
Your secret secrets stowed,
Keep a key around your neck,
Call it a second home.

Information has a price
Much steeper than mine eyes,
All the things that can’t be shared
Cold storage unit holds.

5.

Canals they Build themselves

SO the limestone was already there before cement was brought in to build the canals, it was as if:

Canals they Build themselves
The limestone calls we do not hear
A limey vein a liquid tear
All underneath our waterways
Already formed the rocky caves

But still as if a brute had built
Canals be bled beneath our foot
Have forced their way into our world
Or we in it misunderstood

6.

Convergence of the hollow lands

- IN A present TIME Of now (pent up ) the pregnantland

I’ll meet you at the convergence,
Of the hollow lands
But, beware my heldhand friend
They’re not welcoming our kind

New Birthing in the emptied space
colony is grown
Small pieces of our flesh and
bone, compost the bigger land

7.

A mortal morter made of death.

As tiny creatures dropped their lives
Sang sinking to the bottom sand
Beneath a salty water den
To coalesce again again

Bones wedged together cast with time
A mortal mortar made of death
Into the ceiling we can see
Millenniums of zoology

As if the day has never changed
Clay bodies broken bridges made
Bright by the light of lime we see

Two hundred years' humanity

8.

The end and after

This land when it forms it forms a map: the island who know s the way it goes picks it up and moves on its way.
And sung to the tune of the end, the song the island sing as it leaves the east river.:  To the tune of end

And says the island clenching its map

WITH MY LIMEY MAP I GO,
granite island limestone road,
empire path ahead make way
onward upward forward ho

9.

AND WHAT DOES THE LIMESTONE SAY AS IT GOES TO CREATE THE BUILDINGS!!!!

Come come now kids, its time to go
We’ve lost our mind, our home, our show
Complacent wandering fulfill
A combine dream renew travel

Climb on my back a million three
We’ll make the mark of liberty
Your east to west a Brooklyn bridge
lets not stop there, To states of head.

The  emigration fossil kind
Has crafted country sturdy so
Our sisters brothers family is
All the morter under way

And so it so its true like that
