On Friday, September 20, Dance Theater Workshop and the 2002 Bessies Committee, in association with Danspace Project and The Joyce Theater, presented the Eighteenth Annual New York Dance and Performance Awards (a.k.a. THE BESSIES) for exceptional achievements of the 2001-2002 season.

The Mir2 collaborative team won for "a truly nuts and bolts rendering of outer space a la Russe, gaffers tape and banal hardware and the human unforeseen in the awkwardly heroic realization of artists as astronauts, a down-to-earth science fiction of whatever works (or doesn't), in the performance installation Mir2 at Smack Mellon."
